Record Breakers, Heart Breakers: Michael Phelps Betrays Promise to Olympic Pool

With their pools, tracks, and courts rapidly deteriorating, Olympic Stadiums across the world went public with their grief this past week. In a series of interviews, the sporting venues revealed the deep-seated physical and emotional distress brought on by their abandonment. "He said he would come back," said Beijing's ex-Olympic swimming pool in which famed swimmer Michael Phelps won eight gold medals. "I promised Mikey I'd help him win if he swore he'd come back to visit me every summer." The pool not only has yet to see Phelps since his epic medal run, but Phelps hasn't  been in touch at all. "Not even a Christmas card," said the pool tearfully.

Other Olympic sporting venues made similar deals with athletes--assisting in their success in the promise of future visits--only to be left behind. "It's not just the crumbling bricks, giant rats, and cancer-causing mold," said a rundown ex-Olympic tennis court who preferred to remain anonymous. "It's the loss of people we considered to be friends." Now that they've shared their stories with the world, however, many ex-Olympic stadiums have found a supportive community of abandoned sports venues with whom they can commiserate. "I sent a friend in London a copy of The Giving Tree," said the Beijing pool. "Never give up hope."
